Depend GelLack In-Home Gel Nail System Review

This brand is Sweden’s no.1 best-selling cosmetics brand is now available in Singapore!

Consisting of the Depend GelLack Obligatory Start Kit, Depend GelLack Colour and Depend GelLack Remover Oil, the system aims to equip the everyday nail connoisseur with the means to achieve immaculate salon-ready nails right at home.

The GelLack Obligatory Start Kit includes a before/after cleanser, base coat, top coat, an orange wood cuticle stick and an LED lamp; to be used with GelLack colour (sold separately), for a high shine finish that will last two to three weeks.

The LED lamp is easy to use and comes equipped with a timer – It both strengthens and dries the nails within minutes, leaving an extremely durable surface.

For people with very short nails or damaged cuticles, this Gel Nail System might not be suitable for use on your nails.

The direction for application is very simple and fuss-free. It is convenient and easy to do gelish nails at the comfort of our homes.

Starting of with a Depend GelLack Before and After Cleanser, I wiped the surface of my nails clean. There is alcohol content in this cleanser, allowing the nail surface to be thoroughly cleansed and there is no need to file the nail surface before applying the product, thus ensuring minimal or no risks in damaging the natural nails and this helps to promote the growth of strong and thick nails.

Before cleansing my nails:

After cleansing my nails:

Next, prep the nails with the Depend GelLack Base

I love the application brush of Depend Gel Lack products as it  picks up the products very well, allows the products to be evenly applied onto my nails and coats my nails perfectly.

And of course, we have to cure the nails in the LED Lamp for 30 seconds. It's really fast and simple!

After applying the Depend GelLack Base and curing under the LED lamp, I need to cleanse my nails again with the Depend GelLack Before and After Cleanser to remove any stickiness from my nails to get my nails ready for the application of Depend GelLack Colour.

The Depend GelLack Base acts as a matte protective coat on my nails.

After the base coat of my nails is done, I decided to try out the Depend GelLack Romantic Pink Polish. It took me quite a few layers to get the pinkish tone to reflect on my nails.

After first coating:

After second coating:

After third coating:

I find that the Depend GelLack Romantic Pink Polish has a very soft pinkish, close to nude shade but it does helps to make my nails look naturally healthy, so if you have pale or yellowish nails, this shade would be perfect for you.

The last step is to seal in the colour of the gel polish and to make the texture of the nail surface feel even with a Depend GelLack Top Coat.

I love the glossy sheen on my nails after the application of Depend GelLack Top Coat and it leaves no feeling of stickiness on my nails.

To summarize, the key highlights of the product:

1. Most gel nail application requires the surface to be buffed first, resulting in thinning and brittleness of the nails. However, GelLack doesn’t require buffing, as curing the polish under the LED lamp smoothens it out to achieve a shiny, ridgeless look (also good news for people who cannot paint nails very evenly with their non-dominant hand). Since it is equipped with an LED lamp and not a UV lamp, the curing and drying process is quicker (30 seconds) and kinder to the nails.

2. Once the nail polish is cured, there is no drying time.

3. The removal process is the key highlight of GelLack’s system, as it requires only GelLack’s Remover Oil and warm water. Most (if not all) gel nail removal requires an acetone soak, which dehydrates the nails. The remaining polish is literally scraped and buffed off, which usually leads to damaged, brittle nails. However, GelLack only requires you to massage the oil into the nails, after which you place the nails in warm water (about 40 degrees) for about 5 minutes or so (depending on how long your manicure has been left on. If you’ve left on the manicure for less than three weeks, leave it in warm water for 7 – 10 minutes) and the nail polish can be peeled off with your fingers or with a cuticle stick, causing no damage to the surface.

4. If there is an event in which your current gel nails don’t match your outfit, you can paint them over with regular nail polish and remove it afterwards with acetone – the gel nails will not be affected.
