Movie Review: Morning Glory

Morning Glory is a romantic comedy movie from the screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada and director of Notting Hill, featuring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton.

When workaholic TV producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) is fired for budgetary reasons from a local news program, her career begins to look as bleak as her hapless love life. She faces numerous rejections in her job application attempts. Becky later stumbles upon a job as executive producer for "Daybreak" (the last-place national morning news show). First day at work, Becky fires sexist co-anchor. Becky later decides to bring on legendary TV anchor Mike Pomeroy (Ford) to lift rating of the show. Unfortunately, things did not turn out as expected. Mike refuses to cover morning show staples like celebrity gossip, weather, fashion and crafts – let alone work with his new co-host, Colleen Peck (Keaton), a former beauty queen and longtime "Daybreak" anchor who is more than happy covering morning "news". Mike and Colleen clash first behind the scenes and then on the air. Ratings for "Daybreak" hits bottleneck and faces the risk of getting replaced.......... At IBS (company that Becky works for), Becky's blossoming love affair with fellow producer, Adam Bennett (Wilson) begins to unravel – and soon Becky is struggling to save her relationship, her reputation, her job and ultimately, the show itself.

What happened in the end? You got to find out for yourself! :)

Alright, here's my take about this movie. Morning Glory isn't exactly a comedy that makes me laugh-till-I-tear type but every bit of seriousness in the movie will follow by some laughing parts or points soon after. It is a comedy after all, so the atmosphere was kept to as relaxed as possible. Furthermore, I find that Morning Glory has good plots. It make me want to carry on watching, to find out what will happen after each setback and curious about how Becky will handle the setbacks. Especially for the part when "Daybreak" is in danger of getting replaced and Becky has to think of ways to boost the ratings in order to save "Daybreak". The ways that Becky used are the most interesting and hilarious part in the movie.

There are some fun scenes that you will find in Morning Glory, and I find this movie suitable for an evening after work or school, just to relax, enjoy the show, laugh, and think of nothing.

My rating: 3/5

The movie opens in Singapore cinemas on 24 March 2011.

Thank you OMY for the invitation to the preview! (^_^)
